TITLE : ALSACE LATE-HARVEST "VENDANGES TARDIVES ET SELECTION DE GRAINS NOBLES" WINES
Reference : ALS/97004 Version : french Duration : 11'00"
Summary : Discover Alsace at harvest time, at a special moment: late-picking of Vendanges Tardives and Sélections de Grains Nobles. These grapes develop thanks to special meteorological conditions. Early morning mist moistens the grape, encouraging the formation of noble rot or "Botrytis Cinerea". Afternoon sunshine evaporates the water in the grape and concentrates the remaining sugar. This natural concentration of sugar in the grape permits late-harvested wines to be made under the strict control of INAO inspectors, and the quantity of juice and potential alcohol content are carefully recorded. At least 18 months after the harvest, each wine in bottle is submitted to a blind tasting which guarantees both quality and typicity.
