TITLE : WIND-ENGINES OF PLUM IN NEW CALEDONIA
| Summary : Insular territories are usually dependent
upon polluting and imported fuels in the energetic field. New Caledonia
has opened a depot of 20 wind-engines on the Négandi mount. This
non polluting power supply generated by the simple strength of the trade-winds
brings 9 millions kw hour per year to the Mont Doré municipality.
It represents 30% of the population consumption there. One year of preparatory studies has permitted to find the most appropriated site to integrate the environment with respect. A 4 km former mining road has been renovated in order to gain access to the Mont Négandi ridges. 30 metres of depth drillings have been made. Each propeller (29 metres of span for an individual weight of 5 tons) has been trimmed on a mast at a height of 32 metres.
